So what exactly is myband.is?

This post is also available in: Spanish

A question we have heard a lot since we started this project. What is myband.is? What will it do for us musicians? So keep reading, you’ll find the answer in this post.

Our project was born while working with new independent bands, right as the industry was changing. Part of our work with these bands took advantage of all of the different online tools available for musicians, and used social media to connect with fans – none of this was new for them. There wasn’t a place where everything came together and made sense. So we created myband.is to fill this gap. A simple idea that requires hardly any extra work from the bands or their collaborators.

We want to make the web easier for everyone, so this is not another profile you will have to create and maintain. Instead, you can keep using the same social networks you always use, but also have all of this info in a neat professional looking site that you can customize to the tune of your music! All that under a cool URL: myband.is/bandname. Got your own domain? No problem, we can set it up to point to to your myband.is page.

We know it might sound a bit complicated, so we worked with our designer to create this image to explain the idea:

Looks cool right? If you wanna find out more, sign up here.

Got any questions? Feel free to answer this post, ask a question, post a reply on twitter to @mybandis or reach us at hello@myband.is.

Oh and by the way, we would like to thank all you guys who responded to our call out for bands, we received tons of applications and the competition was tough. Stay tuned this week to find out who the four lucky winners are!

Keep on rocking, we are working to take your music to a new stage. Are you ready?

Looks pretty awesome guys! I was wondering…might there be any chance you would release an API like embedly for embedding online media from sites like SoundCloud, Youtube, etc. with a javascript object that would allow for the creation of a music/video playlist?

I don’t think it’s possible to create an automatic playlist with Embedly. Looking at the YouTube & SoundCloud javascript APIs, it definitely seems possible to do so…it would just be nice to have a unified library to play embedded media as a playlist.

Hi Kevin! I didn’t know Embed.ly, thanks for that.

A myband.is API is definitely something we’ll be working on in the near future. I can only tell you it’s going to be awesome, sorry I can’t give you any more details :P
      Thanks for commenting, stay tuned.
