myband.is is a tool for musicians to create a slick, customized website that updates automatically, is easy to set up and best of all, is free. The service was launched in private beta on July 24, 2012 and one month later is being rolled out to a larger audience through invitations that existing users can send to other bands.
“We had such a great response from bands using the site in private beta, that we very quickly got to a point where we had fixed any major issues, made additional improvements, and were ready to bring more bands on board.” says Lucho Molina, one of the founders of myband.is.
Some of the additional improvements include adding a gallery of band pages to the home, enabling custom domains so that bands can use their own url for their myband.is page, letting bands login with their Facebook account, along with a bunch of behind the scenes updates to improve the site’s performance. “It’s with the valuable feedback from our users that guides us in creating our roadmap for the future.” says Lucho.
myband.is is a service for bands and musicians to create their official website, using content from their social networks and other web services. Content is seamlessly integrated by type rather than source (which is more commonly the norm with this kind of service), this makes band pages feel more like a tailor-made website than a solution for the masses.
The service offers a high level of customization, without crossing the line that separates professional from amateur, making it very hard to create a bad looking band page.
